Running long in London

Building the long run

Long runs work best on continuous, uninterrupted terrain. Mostly urban roads and mixed city surfaces. Plan water stops in advance — most of these routes pass drinking fountains or shops, but not reliably in the outer sections.

Marathon and half-marathon blocks

Progress the long run by no more than 10–15% per week, and keep one route constant so you can compare weeks honestly. Repeating a loop twice is usually easier to fuel than a single point-to-point.

Safety on longer efforts

Check route details and local traffic conditions before running GPS art routes.
